This is a nice line breeding on the highly respected BIS Amer, Can Ch. Monarch's Black Arrogance, CD, WC ("Gunnar"); Reign is a grandson of Gunnar and Karina goes back to him 4 times in 6 generations. Reign is a very well-balanced dog with exceptional movement and "presence", masculine typy head/expression, strong topline and rear, great tail, coat and bone. He has had a very impressive show career having collected 8 Best in Show wins (very rare for Labradors); he was the #1 Lab in Canada in 1998 and #8 All-Breeds. After moving to Florida to be dearly loved by Judy Debell, he got his American Championship at 7 years of age, an indication of how well he ages. To all that, add a sweet, loving temperament and you have quite a dog. Karina is a lovely black bitch with a beautiful typy head and frontpiece, excellent correct blue-black coat, good topline and tailset; she has high intelligence, a very calm, loving temperament, wonderful with children and babies, and tremendous enthusiasm for retrieving and swimming ... great nose too. She'd rather do that, or snuggle with someone, than parade around the showring! (But her kids from her previous litter are outstanding young showdogs ... look at Valerie & Walter's web pages.)
I expect some nice show prospects from this breeding, happy, loving temperaments for wonderful family companions, and pups that could successfully do obedience, and/or agility. With Karina's nose and strong retrieving/hunting instincts, they should also have potential for hunting and/or AKC hunting titles.

UPDATE:
After two nights without sleep, Karina & I whelped a litter of 10 healthy puppies, just a very slow beginning with the first puppy born in a corner of the vet's office at 12:25 AM, Dec. 3, where we had gone for x-rays and possibility of the dreaded c-section. I pulled that yellow male (Blue Boy), cleaned him up and raced for home before the rest started pouring out. We had 9 more healthy pups within 7 hours ... like Pandora's Box! After a calm, normal day, with mama comfortable and puppies nursing well, I slept like a log till morning. But next morning I found another black male puppy, unfortunately dead, that had apparently been delivered about 6 AM. Karina had delivered, chewed the umbilical cord and cleaned him up to perfection all alone. I was shocked to find another puppy born so long after whelping was apparently finished but more shocked to see more contractions. At 10 AM Dec. 4, I pulled another yellow female, worked for 45 minutes trying to revive her to no avail. So sad to hold those perfect little bodies, so lifeless. It's very rare to have pups delivered more than 24 hours after the previous pups, but it does happen; sometimes they're fine, more often than not they don't survive unfortunately. But Karina did in fact have the "dozen" puppies that I suspected weeks ago ... just like her mama Molly did 2 12/ years ago. One of those whelpings to remember!!!
Puppies look lovely, are all gaining well and Karina is a wonderful, conscientious mama. We have 4 yellow males, 2 black males, 1 yellow female and 3 black females ... averaging almost one pound at birth.
